beautiful batik

assalamualaikum and hello!wow such a long2 time since my last post..i've been busy with work, family and sewing ofcourse..hehe i've made so many creations..all of them different..n unique...im not sure why..i go with my mood and what im feeling..you can view some of my creations at my instagram: patxjoe or #verstylista. i should be consistently posting about my creations but unfortunately i was not able to. i wanted to do a lil bit of diying and sharing it here which i will do my best to make that happen.

so recently, i just finished cleaning my sewing/laundry/ stuff room because it was too messy..and i really2 wanted to sort out my fabric. over the years, i had accumulated tonnes of fabric, like literally i can open up my own fabric shop. i am a hoarder.

well its not my fault because jakel n kamdar have such lovely fabric designs n materials! so i vowed to myself, i will finish off all of these fabrics before i start buying more.

some of the fabrics that i have consisted of batik prints! i have a gorgez pink-marroon hand designed batik and your normal everyday wear block printed batik. see if you can spot in the picture on your left!
i love both types of batik designs! i am not a batik expert or anything because i dont know what the batik motifs or patterns are called but mostly they are floral and gorgeously designed with "emotional" colours. you can read more on batik here: www.jadibatek.com

The trend nowadays is all on tribal prints but most of us do not even know from which tribe these prints are based from! hahah..people just like to wear whatever is in style without understanding what they are wearing basically. for example..skulls or crazy zig zag patterns (which i love). no offense to the skull lovers but i am truly, sincerely curious with your love for skulls oh and yes..moustaches!hahah recently, some of my students did a presentation on the Hipster culture and from my own readings, these patterns of skulls and moustaches are based on these hipster cultures which is now trending (and still trending). another post on hispter type of dressing soon.

back to the beautiful batik! i have tonnes of "kain Batik" (kain=fabric). but unfortunately, i do not know how to wear my kain batik. one should wear it as a long skirt, but i cannot secure it around my waist because it does not have any elastic or belt. you have to fold and twist and walla..here is a simple tutorial on how to wear the kain batik.so since i suck at that, i decided to turn my kain batik into a chic top instead!haha! well its such a waste to not use these kain batiks so thats why i decided to do so. in malaysia u will rarely see block printed batiks to be worn as a dress or a top because kain batiks are usually used for "basahan" or everyday use in the comfort of your own home or during your confinement period. in the old age, our grandmothers will actually wear it with their kurung top n working it. here is an example of some malaysian celebs owning the kain batik.
but block printed batik is rarely found nowadays to be a fashion statement. unlike our indonesian friends, they are crazy over their block printed batiks!they turn it into so many things, so i was basically inspired by their usage of batiks!next project..a batik vintage handbag with chanel like chains!ooh!

so what i did was a jovian mandagie inspired chic top. i described as jovian mandagie chic top because, it kind of looks like it

but of course he is a genius and his designs are way more beautiful. i paired by emerald green batik with an emerald green lycra to give it some color and pattern block.
i think if a top or dress consist of 100% pattern, it will look too crowded and i feel that its too much patterns for the eyes to bear with. but i think in the future, im gonna pair my batik prints with chiffon instead to give it that expensive, chic and lightweight feel as i have done with my other tops . lycra is a bit heavy because block batik printed fabric is usually stiff so i wanted to add some weight to it by using lycra.

i added a zipper at the front for easy breastfeeding!so here it is. i did it in 1 and half hours i think..hehe i got lots of likes from my friends, and some even requested a batik printed shawl which has been in my mind hehe, but that will be for another post soon!insyaallah..

toodles!wslm!:)
